A Chinese court on Friday sentenced Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu to 13 years in prison on charges including rape.
Beijing’s Chaoyang District Court said Wu was given 11 years and 6 months for a 2020 rape, and 1 year and 10 months for the “crime of assembling a crowd to engage in sexual promiscuity” in a 2018 incident in which he and others allegedly assaulted two women they had gotten drunk.It said a combined 13-year sentence was agreed on and Wu would be immediately deported after serving his time.
Wu has been detained since August last year while police conducted an investigation in response to comments online that he “repeatedly lured young women” to have sex, according to a police statement at that time.

Conservatives echoed Xi’s meaningless allegation that Trudeau had “leaked” details about the two men’s discussion, and former Conservative MP Bob Saroya tweeted, “Politics aside it is tough to see the PM run backstage after getting publicly humiliated by President Xi.” The readiness to take the side of a dictator in a dispute with Canada’s prime minister is an indication of how partisan dislike for Trudeau, the Liberals, and anything progressive has reached the point where it tops everything—even our national interest—in today’s vicious, divisive political climate. These Trudeau critics seem to have forgotten that the Chinese government is seen by many security experts as the most serious threat to the democratic, rules-based global order.
