Tokyo | China has confirmed leader Xi Jinping will attend next week’s APEC and G20 summits in Bangkok and Bali,China said on Friday Mr Xi would meet US President Joe Biden and other leaders, who were not named.
While Mr Xi’s attendance had earlier been announced by the White House and the Indonesian government, this was the first time Beijing had confirmed the Chinese leader would go. Canberra is working on what would be a breakthrough meeting between Mr Albanese and Mr Xi on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali in the middle of next week, or at the APEC summit in Thailand straight afterwards.
If it goes ahead, it will be the first official meeting in six years between an Australian prime minister and Mr Xi.
