Published three years after the outbreak, the study does not really pinpoint a source of COVID-19 infection.
A new study published by researchers at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention sheds light on the samples collected from the wet animal market in Wuhan, Chin – the alleged place of origin of the COVID-19 pandemic. Scientists from around the world are split on whether the study helps usThe Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in the city of Wuhan was shut down in January 2020 after multiple early COVID-19 cases were linked to the location.
Genomic analysis of swabs taken from stalls, surfaces, cages, and machinery inside the market was expected to provide more insights about the spread of the virus at the location and was recently published in the journalAccording to the study, some of the samples collected at the site tested positive for the virus. The analysis also showed that animals, such as raccoon dogs, are susceptible to the virus and were also present at the location.
This could be a result of contamination of the samples or improper processing of the data, both of which raise doubts over how much faith must be put in the findings.
