After heavy rainfall, Chile's Atacama Desert exploded with thousands of colorful flowers. The phenomenon is called desierto florido . Over 200 species of flowers inhabit the desert. Some lay dormant in the soil for years until rainfall causes them to sprout.
In addition to its blooms, the park will give travelers a chance to explore the Atacama’s craggy southern coast, where peacock-blue waters shimmer. For astronomy fans, Atacama’s lustrous night skies give visitors rare peeks into the galaxy.
