At the same time, policies from the Texas Legislature often disrespect or harm low-income and immigrant families, Sanborn said. In fact, Houston has more uninsured children than any place in the developed world, Sanborn said. Roughly 15% of children in the region lack health care coverage, compared to 5% in the U.S.
"Mental health among youth is very alarming," she said."We know that we cannot reach every young person out there. But what we can do is we can train."
