The victim and the suspect were caught, together, in a car in an East Bay Regional Parks parking lot, authorities said.

OAKLAND — A 31-year-old man was charged with statutory rape and child sex abuse after an East Bay Regional Parks policeman allegedly caught him and a 15-year-old girl were caught alone together in his parked car after sundown, court records show.

Felipe Chajon, of Oakland, was charged with committing a lewd act upon a child younger than 16, and unlawful sex with a minor, both felonies. He was arrested May 12 after an EBRPD officer allegedly approached Chajon’s car intent on citing it for being parked at the Bort Meadow Staging, Anthony Chabot Regional Park past closing, but soon realized Chajon and the girl were inside, authorities said.

Police believe Chajon was sexually abusing the girl as the officer approached. They allege that he admitted to starting a “relationship” with her after they med at a party, and that he initially believed she was 17. However, Chajon also allegedly admitted that he had discovered her true age weeks earlier, police say.

Police separate the girl and interviewed her. She reportedly told them that Chajon had purchased beer for her before they drove to the park. Chajon posted $50,000 bail and was released from jail two weeks after his arrest, in late May, court records show. He has pleaded not guilty and his next court date has been set for August 2.
