British Columbia, meanwhile, is the first province to announce that booster shots will be open to everyone aged 12 or older starting in January 2022. “Everyone who has received their first and second doses who wants a booster shot will receive one,” said B.C.’s Minister of Health Adrian Dix in announcing the plan.

“Provinces and territories will look at their own particular context, the epidemiology and the populations that they serve, which even inside the same province could be a little bit different in terms of their needs,” Tam told reporters on Friday. “Operationally, they’ll be taking all those things into account as they roll out their programs. But just to reemphasize: for the general population, there is agreement that they don’t need the in any short immediate future.
