WASHINGTON — Chief Justice John Roberts offered a rare rebuke of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday after the New York Democrat made what Roberts called"threatening statements" against two conservative justices.
"Justices know that criticism comes with the territory, but threatening statements of this sort from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate, they are dangerous," Roberts said. A Schumer spokesperson pushed back on the chief justice's rebuke, accusing Roberts of following a"deliberate misinterpretation" of Schumer's remarks.
