In sending Islanders to the polls six months early, King snubbed the province’s election date legislation and broke his word to the people that he would become the first P.E.I. premier to stick to the rules. The problem with this reasoning — if one can call it that — is the legislation does not suggest the election be called at four years. It says election day is a specific date. Not necessarily a date that suits the premier’s political fortunes.
