Chase Elliott wins Atlanta NASCAR race with late block.
Elliott got past LaJoie with a push from Erik Jones, but LaJoie quickly got back in line, got his own help from Jones, and had a run on the final lap. Elliott responded by blocking his run all the way up the track, with LaJoie holding onto his run all the way up to the wall and crashing back into the field. Elliott would go on to win, while LaJoie would remain winless in all NASCAR national series for his career.
It was not the day's only drama. Ross Chastain finished second, but in the process he angered two drivers by causing other crashes. One, Aric Almirola, implied that Chastain should be careful not to run into him at a grocery store. Another, Denny Hamlin, had already told Chastain after an ugly race at Gateway that he planned to get revenge when the stakes were higher than the regular season.
The NASCAR Cup Series heads to the New Hampshire Motor Speedway next weekend. That flat mile course should lead to a race with far fewer wrecks.
