On May 14, council voted 6-1 to approve a change to the remuneration bylaw, which outlines salaries over a four-year period. Coun. Bob Doiron opposed.

That means council will receive a lump sum to make up for pay not changing for two years, giving an extra $2,285.96 to the mayor, $1,281.77 to the deputy and $1,173.49 for councillors. According to a staff report by HR manager Emilee MacLeod, a previous amendment to the bylaw contradicted itself. The pay table showed a two per cent automatic raise for each year, while another section of the document said annual raises would be equivalent to the lowest increase given to unionized city employees.
