Tadd Bali is now facing 1 count each of second-degree and attempted murder
A senior is in hospital in critical condition after a vehicle-ramming incident in Vancouver’s West End in the early hours of May 15, 2026. Vancouver police say the accused in a May vehicle-ramming incident in the West End has had his charges upgraded after one of the victims died.
Tadd Bali, 34, is not facing one count each of second-degree murder and attempted murder, as well as two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, a news release from the Vancouver Police Department said on Friday . Bali remains in custody. Police have said he has had “extensive interactions” with police in B.C. and Saskatchewan.
The upgraded charges follow the death of a senior who was hit, allegedly by Bali, and later died in hospital on May 24.with four counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, Vancouver police previously said on May 19. The suspect vehicle was allegedly driving erratically in the area of Comox and Broughton streets, hitting numerous objects, including the Nelson Park dog area on Vancouver police said at the time that several people had to scramble to get out of the way of the suspect’s vehicle.
A senior, who was riding a motorized scooter at the time, was unable to get out of the way of the driver. The suspect was eventually stopped after he rammed a police vehicle that was responding to the incident, destroying the police cruiser and flipping the suspect’s vehicle. Some officers were injured during the incident. Police said the suspect was trapped inside the vehicle.
Multiple ambulances and Vancouver Fire Rescue Services responded and they were able to free the suspect from the vehicle. Both injured Vancouver Police Department officers, including one recruit constable who was on his second day of work at the time of the vehicle ramming, were released from hospital on the same day.
