'It would be crazy to not have him on your workout list.” Just a few days after Roger Goodell said he would welcome, support and encourage a team to sign Colin Kaepernick, Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn was enthusiastic about the QB's potential.
Lynn told reporters he’s “very confident and happy” with the Chargers’ current outlook at the QB position — veteran Tyrod Taylor, 2020 sixth-overall pick Justin Herbert, and third-stringer Easton Stick — but cautioned that teams “can never have too many people waiting on the runway.”
Kaepernick, 32, hasn’t played an NFL game since the 2016 season — a year during which he knelt during the national anthem every Sunday to peacefully protest issues of racial inequality and police brutality across the United States. After opting out of his deal with the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, Kaepernick has remained unsigned, watching as multiple teams filled QB openings with players whose stat lines and experience fall far inferior to his own.“He definitely would be someone where, maybe if something happened, we’d bring him in. I don’t know."
