With Manchester City and Liverpool facing each other again Saturday in an FA Cup semifinal, their fates in the league turn to midweek games.
With last-place Norwich being seven points from safety, that’s pretty much the only thing that’s decided with seven matchweeks to go.
Brighton started the season well, then slumped horrifically, but last week’s win over Arsenal, and their Saturday clash with Tottenham before facing City have them playing the role of kingmaker somewhat. Spurs have won four in a row and now sit on track as favourites to get the fourth spot, but still have to play Arsenal and also have to visit Anfield. Chelsea plays in the other FA Cup semifinal against Crystal Palace on Sunday, but if Spurs beat Brighton they’ll move to within two points of the Blues, who are still licking their wounds after cruelly being dumped from the Champions League by Real Madrid, they can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves and get dragged back into a Top Four battle.
