The Ottawa Student Transportation Association faced pressure from students and parents to fix the city-wide school bus driver shortage, after the association cancelled 300 bus routes before this school year.
A report looking to address a $7-million funding gap at OSTA — which manages student transportation for the English school boards — says some elementary and secondary schools in Ottawa should be changing their start and end times to make the buses more efficient.The Ottawa Student Transportation Association has faced pressure from students and parents to fix the city-wide school bus driver shortage last year.
Deloitte's report recommended eight measures for OSTA which it said will reduce expenses and increase efficiency.Allow more time for students to arrive to, or leave from, the school under supervision. The only recommendation OSTA rejected outright was the harmonization of school calendars, saying only the school boards have the authority to make that change.
