A CFB Edmonton soldier has been convicted of setting fire to her home in an attempt to kill herself and her children in a \u0022bitter\u0022 custody battle with her ex\u002Dhusband.
The Crown argued the woman withdrew large amounts of cash, took her children on a shopping spree at West Edmonton Mall,
Little largely disbelieved the woman’s story. He said her statement to military police — in which she called her ex-husband an “a–hole” — undermined her claim she was unbothered by the custody order. Little also heard evidence from the woman’s friends and neighbours, who said she was “fixated” on the court ruling.Article contentfor months before being turned over to investigators.
“She claimed to be no longer angry about the primary care order, so why would she fear a confrontation?” Little asked. He also concluded the accused wrote the letter while staying with her kids at West Edmonton Mall’s Fantasyland Hotel, not after the fire, as she claimed. “What parent awakened by children saying there’s a fire tells them to go back to bed, and that she’d deal with it later?”Little also found fault with the accused’s interview with military police, which lasted four hours and was filled with “rambling about extraneous matters.”“I do not find to be credible,” Little concluded. “I do not believe her exculpatory evidence, nor does it give rise to a reasonable doubt in my mind.
