estimated that last week’s budget includes $15-billion of spending on initiatives contained in the confidence-and-supply agreement, including dental care.
McKay said that he isn’t worried the Liberals might lose the centre in federal politics as a result of the agreement with the NDP, at least as long as the Conservative Party of Canada hasn’t appointed a permanent leader. “It’s a shake up in terms of getting things done. Festering crises that have not been addressed in any meaningful way, that has been the hallmark of Canadian politics over the last few decades. Now we’re finally seeing concrete action, [and] concrete commitments to actually address it,” said Julian. “I see ‘shake up’ as a very positive word. It means no more business as usual with things not getting done to help people.
“I would see this as a very positive step, and the history in Canada around confidence and supply at the provincial level, have indicated that as well,” said Julian. “At the provincial level, each time [confidence and supply agreements] were successful in actually putting in place policies that made a difference in people’s lives. We believe at the federal level it will do the same thing.”
