Central Saanich kicks off free emergency preparedness workshops in February with information on emergency plans, kits and communication.

The District of Central Saanich is hosting a series of free emergency workshops for residents next month after receiving positive feedback from residents during last year’s events.

The district started running the events more regularly last year and has decided to continue with them after seeing high numbers of participants. “It’s important for every household to create an emergency plan that you share with your loved ones and update every year,” said Mayor Ryan Windsor. “Making the plan takes 20 minutes and it gives you peace of mind. If an extreme event happens in our community, you will know what to do.” , the district says the destruction from the fires further highlighted the need for communities to be prepared with an emergency plan and emergency kit in each household, should you suddenly need to evacuate.

Speakers for the workshop include Ted Olynyk, community relations manager at BC Hydro, and Lisa Banfield, the district’s emergency program manager.
