His girlfriend suffered from heat exhaustion during a hike.
On Sunday, 29-year-old Tim Sgrignoli of Ventura was on a hike with his girlfriend at Tresspass Trail, which leads to the summit of Gaviota Peak. She began experiencing symptoms that corresponded with heat exhaustion,. The peak, part of the Santa Ynez Mountains, is about 36 miles west of Santa Barbara.
During the hike, Sgrignoli reportedly told his girlfriend that he was heading back to their vehicle to gather supplies and get help. He left their shared phone with her,At around 2 p.m., she called 911 and was later rescued by helicopter. She was treated, but not hospitalized. At first, Cal Coast News reported, officials believed that Sgrignoli may have been given a ride once he reached Highway 101, as it borders the trail. The vehicle was still where the couple had parked parked, reported Noozhawk.
But in the days following his disappearance, dozens of people from the county’s search and rescue team and crews from various agencies statewide began looking for Sgrignoli.
