A new report suggests that catching up on sleep over the weekend doesn’t pose much of a health benefit.
Last Updated Thursday, February 28, 2019 7:26PM ESTBut the problem with catching up on sleep is that it doesn’t actually help, according to new research.suggests that negative side effects of not getting enough sleep on weekdays – such as weight gain and insulin sensitivity -- can’t be solved with more sleep on Saturday and Sunday.
"The key take-home message from this study is that ad libitum weekend recovery or catch-up sleep does not appear to be an effective countermeasure strategy to reverse sleep loss induced disruptions of metabolism," Wright said in a statement. Insufficient sleep has been linked to a wide range of health problems, including negative moods, reduced alertness and impaired attention and memory.
