: The Democratic National Committee is making it harder for 2020 candidates to qualify for the next televised debate in November bypolling and fundraising thresholds in order to get onstage—and Julian
Castro and Amy Klobuchar may be in trouble.
To qualify in November, candidates must receive 3% or more support in at least four party-approved polls. For the last debate, candidates only needed 2%. Candidates can also qualify if they get 5% or more support in two polls conducted in states that vote early in the primary: Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada.
For fundraising, candidates need donations from 165,000 unique donors. The last debate only required 130,000.Nearly half of the crowded Democratic field didn’t qualify for the last televised debate, but the more stringent requirements put even more candidates who did qualify at risk.
