The Hill Times
OTTAWA—Today, here’s a tale of two Liberal Members of Parliament who are finding that life in the city of Ottawa is not so much fun. Speculation would suggest their lonely-hearts club extends beyond them both, but that is for another time. The ranking Liberal MP in this story is the Trudeau government’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change Steven Guilbeault, a former well-regarded—in some circles—environmental campaigner and advocate.
McDonald is the rebellious, common-sense Liberal who voted twice with the Conservatives on measures supporting carbon-price changes. He was one of the first Liberal MPs to speak publicly about the need for regional appreciation and reality in national carbon policy application. His opposition to his own government was not obviously punished, though some of his N.L. MP peers weren’t thrilled with his behaviour. They took the lumps while he got accolades.
