The Washington Capitals have secured the services of goaltender Logan Thompson with a six-year contract worth $35.1 million. Thompson has been a standout performer for the Capitals this season, leading them to the top of the NHL standings.
Logan Thompson is cashing in on his stellar start with the Washington Capitals , getting rewarded with a new contract that gives the late-blooming goaltender a significant raise.
“We are pleased to sign Logan to a multi-year contract,” general manager Chris Patrick said upon announcing the contract Monday. “Logan has demonstrated that he is one of the top goaltenders in the NHL this season and since he joined the league. With his size and exceptional athleticism, we are confident that this signing will enhance one of the most critical positions on our team, especially as he enters the prime years of his career.
“He’s been fantastic all year,” defenseman John Carlson said recently."In big moments, I think he’s at his best, and at big points of the game, I think that’s his strength.” Defenseman Jakob Chychrun is another pending free agent, but getting a deal done with Thompson is a major victory for Patrick, who took over day-to-day duties from longtime GM Brian MacLellan last July.
