NORTH SYDNEY — The Cape Breton Warriors displayed their fighting spirit but came up short in their East Coast Junior ‘B’ Lacrosse League action home-opener on Saturday.The visitors jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Warriors got on board late in the first period to make it 3-1 heading into the second.The Warriors carried the momentum into the early part of the second period, knotting things up at 3-3 before the Gryphons added two goals to make it 5-3.
League scoring leader Dustin Camus had a four-point night with two goals and two assists to lead the Warriors while Dylan Campbell and Lucas Wilcox each had a goal and an assist. William Hussey had the other Warriors goal and Jesse Holland added two assists. Warriors goaltender Mitchell MacLean-Gwynn made 26 saves on 32 shots in a losing effort while Lucas Johnstone stopped 23 of 28 to earn the win.
