Glace Bay's Kirk Furey and his Austria team will play a pre-tournament game in Antigonish
Cape Breton Island will not host a 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship pre-tournament game. The locations were announced by Hockey Canada last week and will see games played in communities in both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. SALTWIRE NETWORK FILESYDNEY, N.S. – Local hockey fans can forget about the possibility of watching some of the world’s top under-20 players play in front of them in Cape Breton this month.
The 2023 tournament will be co-hosted by Halifax and Moncton and will run from Dec. 23 to Jan. 5, 2023. The games will be played at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax and the Avenir Centre in Moncton. “I wasn’t aware of it, but the next time I’ll be certainly aware that it’s the process to go through and I’d assume that’s going to be consistent all the way through for their events.”

MacDonald admitted he would have entertained the possibility of having Team Austria play in Cape Breton because of Furey’s connection to the local area.
