Contributed photo by Lorne CraneThe volunteer organziation Cape Breton Search & Rescue has been targeted by brazen catalytic converter thieves.“We want to preface by saying this community has been the best supporters of what we do. We have incredibly committed people who work really hard to make sure our services can continue to be offered — because it's volunteer of course.

Spokeswoman Amanda Donovan noted the vehicles are clearly marked. She said vehicle manager Lorne Crane had pulled them out Friday night because there was map and compass training the next morning.“So we have given that information to the police…. I guess the surprise to us is our vehicles are very clearly labeled. They are branded.”

“We just love doing what we do. This really shows I guess how much the community stands behind us when needed as well,” she said. “It is something being looked at whether or not there is any connection between any of them,” Magnus said of the recent rash. The devices can be stolen in minutes so police are recommending people keep their vehicles in well lit areas with lots of traffic.
