TOWER ROAD, N.S. — Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating a complaint alleging that more than $20,000 has gone missing from a now-closed volunteer fire department near Glace Bay.

Soon after a department meeting in November 2023, Clamp said he, as deputy chief, had accessed the fire department’s point-of-sales system “which gave up a total amount of sales that was done for the year of 2023.” This past January, the registry noted an “authorized filer” — or someone authorized to file information on behalf of a business or non-profit — was completed.

The Cape Breton Post reached out to Jewells for comment, but the former fire chief said he could not speak on the alleged missing funds due to the police investigation. “By the end of the meeting through guidance of and Mark , Terry the Chief decided that the Tower Road Fire Department should be closed due to safety concerns,” the statement read.
