SYDNEY, N.S. — Several residents attending an information session on a new rapid housing development set to be built say there’s a lingering uneasiness about locating the project close to Sydney’s historic north-end district.
The building will house single and coupled adults from around the Cape Breton Regional Municipality who are currently experiencing homeless, or at risk of homelessness and face barriers to being housed without support. However, north-end resident Joanna MacIntyre wished public consultations had taken place on the site choice.
But the non-profit said that was not acceptable to the majority of municipal council because of its distance from services that are concentrated in the downtown. That was about as heated as the discourse got throughout the hour-and-a-half session. Questions for Porter, Peters and Donatelli’s presentations took on a more respectful tone.
