Robert O'Hearn a 78-year-old from Sydney, may have a new place to live thanks to two women from Whycocomagh who offered up potential accommodations. He's also been offered a room in North Sydney as well as in a homeless shelter. IAN NATHANSON/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY — After his apartment was gutted from post-tropical storm Fiona and with his temporary hotel stay set to expire, Robert O’Hearn worried that he was one step away from becoming homeless.

“I’ve been here almost a month on their dime,” he said. “I’m grateful, but I can’t be taking any more money from them.”“I was walking on the clouds and hitting on the stars when they accepted me,” he said. A social services representative contacted him about an opening at a homeless shelter, he said, but that would only last as a temporary stopover.

As of Friday, Bedell said 113 people have been displaced from their homes across the province, with 90 of those in the CBRM.
