MacLeod also admitted that the time he had stopped taking his prescribed medication and didn’t inform members of his management team until after the fact. He said he stopped taking the medication because he could not afford to refill the prescription. “Substance abuse and mental health issues were the main factors that contributed to your offence cycle. You suffer from mental health issues which often contributes to your deteriorating behaviour in stressful situations and you use drugs to self-medicate,” noted the board in a recently released decision.
In the board’s decision, it was explained that MacLeod no longer wants to be considered for release into the community favouring instead a structured environment that will allow him to better address his issues with addiction, his need for psychological counselling and other mental health needs.
