Cape Breton will host the Atlantic Under-18 'AAA' Female Hockey Championship this week at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre. The four-day tournament will kick off on Thursday and run until Sunday afternoon. “We’ve been putting all of our energy into this tournament,” said MacNeil. “I believe once we hit the ice, having all of the fans there to support us, we’ll be fired up and come out flying when the puck drops.”
MacNeil and Meghan Muise are the goaltending tandem for the Lynx. MacNeil had a 9-1 record with a 2.19 goals-against average and a .878 save percentage. Muise posted a 6-4 record with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. Lynx head coach Sonya Lynk said the players have continued to stay focused at practice over the last six weeks, which is a good sign for the team going into the tournament.
While Lynk is well aware of what the Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and P.E.I. teams bring to the table, she admitted the club doesn’t know much about the Newfoundland and Labrador team.
