SYDNEY — The Cape Breton Eagles released 16 players from training camp as veteran players were slated to arrive. On Saturday, the QMJHL team released prospective forwards Carson Griffin, Dawson Grandy, Kiefer Avery, Tristan Sanchez, Jonah MacDonald, Alexandre Pelletier, Xavier Parent, Wynston Iserhoff and Reese Allen, as well as defencemen Jacob Long, Jake Prince, Brady Wambolt, Tyson LeFrense and Alexandre Carbonneau, and goaltending prospects Zach Bridgeo and Luc-Antoine Labbé.

Veteran players and the remaining rookie lineup were slated to hit the ice at the Miners Forum in Glace Bay for a Sunday morning on-ice practice, hours before a 5 p.m. Black & White game. The Eagles, 0-1 in QMJHL pre-season play after Friday’s 6-2 loss to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in Truro, will next face the Halifax Mooseheads for two games — Tuesday night at the Miners Forum then Wednesday at the RBC Centre in Dartmouth, both 7 p.m. starts.
