SYDNEY, N.S. - The Cape Breton Eagles wrapped up a busy week of training camp with a pre-season loss to the Moncton Wildcats on Friday night.Sidney Deslauriers scored twice, while Julius Sumpf, Cooper Cormier, and Shawn Carrier netted goals for the Wildcats.Read moreMoncton's Keegan Warren and Kiefer Thompson shared time in goal. Warren stopped 13 of 15 shots, while Thompson allowed one goal on 13 shots in his 30 minutes of relief.
Cape Breton's Rhyah Stewart, who made history becoming the first female player to ever play for the Eagles and the first Atlantic Canadian female to play in the Canadian Hockey League, stopped all 24 shots she faced.Moncton outshot Cape Breton 41-28 while going 2-for-4 on the power play. The Eagles were 1-for-6 with the man-advantage.
The Eagles and Wildcats will continue the pre-season on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at Avenir Centre in Moncton. Cape Breton's final pre-season game is Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.
