“To be honest, before I stopped working and before my husband stopped working, we had a couple of jobs,” said Deguzman, who also provides financial support to her family in the Philippines. “The EI payments for us is not enough — especially in our situation because we don’t have any income rather than that so it is really challenging for us right now.”

“Actually when they admitted me on Dec. 18, they allowed my husband to stay in the same room. So we saved money, instead of us renting,” said Deguzman.
