SYDNEY, N.S. — Three Cape Breton teams took provincial titles across the Canso Causeway over the weekend following Hockey Nova Scotia’s Day of Champions at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro.
Nathan MacKinnon scored twice while Max Gouthro and Hunter Orkish added single markers for the Islanders.Cape Breton County’s Trace Tanner picked up the win in goal. Western Valley’s Felix Agombar was tagged with the loss. Statistics were not available.Jonah Surette had two goals and an assist while Lucas Evasuk-MacDonald, Junior MacNeil and Drew McPhee also netted goals for the Miners.Glace Bay Miners.
New Waterford’s Brooke Baldwin picked up the win. Bedford’s Shia Dunford-Woods was the losing goaltender. Statistics were not available.The Sydney Steelers and Cape Breton West Islanders also competed in the Day of Champions on Saturday.Matthew Greer scored five times while Hunter Grant had two goals and an assist and Bennett Thibideau notched two goals. Cole Nelson, Declan O’Neill and Dustin Decoste added single markers for the Wings.Cole Harbour’s Kameron Awalt earned the win.
Isyc Evans scored twice while Ordell MacLellan, Cullen MacLellan, Ben Swinkels and William VanZutphen also fired home goals for the Islanders.
