.Canucks forward Sven Baertschi has opted out of returning to play, the team confirmed Saturday.
The 27-year-old only appeared in six games with the Canucks this season, his fifth with the organization. He has one year left on his contract with a cap hit of $3.3 million.
Baertschi was placed on waivers by the Canucks at the end training camp last fall but recalled him in early November after Micheal Ferland suffered a concussion. He was placed on waivers a second time on Dec. 15 after the team tried to trade him and he spent the remainder of the season with AHL Utica.Forward Kole Lind has been added to the Canucks’ training camp roster in Baertschi’s place. Lind, 21, had 30 points in 61 AHL games this season.
On Friday, Calgary Flames defenceman Travis Hamonic chose to opt-out of returning in order to remain home with his family. Players have until 5 p.m. ET on Monday to inform their teams whether they will return to play or not.
