have promoted Chris Gear to assistant general manager and chief legal officer, the team announced Tuesday.

Gear spent the last four seasons working with the Canucks as a hockey operations executive, handling player contract negotiations, Vancouver’s AHL affiliation with the Utica Comets and the business operations of the Canucks. “We’re fortunate to have a very talented and experienced hockey operations staff,” said Canucks general manager Jim Benning, who announced Gear’s promotion in a press release. “Chris Gear has made a significant contribution to our Hockey Operations executive over four years and we’re pleased to recognize his efforts and have him continue to provide his experience and support.”

According to the team, Gear will continue to handle both legal affairs and insurance matters that relate to Canucks Sports and Entertainment in his new capacity.
