The Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Team Championship (NTC) will test Lake Erie’s claim to be the Walleye Capital of the World.
Bad weather has forced the premier walleye anglers from around the country to wait a day to competed in the National Team Championship in Lorain, with the two-day event kicking off this morning at the Black River Landing. Anglers will be chasing trophy walleye like this one weighed by Ryan Buddie of Amherst in the recent NWT event in Port Clinton, finishing third.
“The teams that make it this far by qualifying through TWF club events for the NTC come ready to compete, but the safety of the anglers must come first and sometimes Mother Nature wins,” Kelm posted on social media. No tournament boats were allowed on Lake Erie Thursday. With Cleveland Harbor full of baitfish, the walleye with excellent night vision are waiting until dark to feed voraciously. Good numbers of walleye are being caught on Rapala Husky Jerk and PRADCO Bandit Lures. Some limits have been reported on the best nights, especially from the East 55th Street and Edgewater Park piers and breakwalls.Smallmouth bass moving upstream
