Around 1980, the Canadian electro pop band Men Without Hats recruited Gabriel for touring and gigs, and there he formed a bond with band co-founder, Jérémie Arrobas.After a few North American tours, the two friends left the group to join another former MWH band member, Jean-Marc Pisapia. They participated in his fledgling musical project, Checkpoint Charlie, which later became known as The Box.
Fast forward to 2012, when Marc Schaffer, owner of the German record label, Anna Logue records, discovered some old, low-quality videos of Isinglass and took a great interest. He approached Arrobas and Gabriel about releasing a 12-inch vinyl four-song EP of their collaborative work from the ’80s. After re-mastering the recordings, the EP was released as Isinglass - One 3 Four in 2013.
A writer for the Montreal daily, Le Devoir, said, “it’s easy to imagine Isinglass surfing the wave of new wave/cold wave of the time.” Radio Canada, the French CBC, reviewed the album on the Pénélope show, with host Isabelle Craig.
