Morris said obstetrical patients who arrive at the hospital over the weekend will be fully assessed by staff and, if needed, they will be transferred to a facility in Calgary or High River. The pause in services is expected to impact few patients, AHS said, but those who are affected will be contacted.Article contentWe recognize this may be upsetting for patients and families, but it is the right decision for the safety of patients,” said Morris.
The Alberta NDP issued a statement regarding the closure with Janis Irwin, official critic for the status of women, calling it “completely unacceptable”It’s completely unacceptable that in a town of nearly 16,000 people, expectant parents are forced to travel over an hour down the highway, in the winter, no less, because the hospital in their community cannot offer services,” said Irwin.
