Byron was caught with an uppercut and crumpled to the ice on Tuesday night during a fight against Florida's MacKenzie Weegar.
The 29-year-old was able to skate off the ice but needed some assistance from a referee.
Thursday’s game is a crucial one for both the Canadiens and Blue Jackets as the two are separated by just two points in the race for the Eastern Conference’s second wild-card spot, currently held by Montreal. Columbus has a game in hand.
