Felix Auger-Aliassime, who turned 20 earlier this month, returned to the court with a convincing 6-4, 6-1 win over Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia
on Saturday in the opening round of the Western & Southern Open in New York, at the same venue where the U.S. Open will be held later this month due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I have been playing really well the last few weeks, and today I’m happy with how I dealt with a lot of things, because there is a lot of things out of my control that you can’t mimic in a practice.” Raonic said.“I don’t think I could have played much better. It was a really tough draw to play Marin first round. He’s such an amazing player, and he’s proven that time and time again,” Shapovalov said.
Prior to the restart, the 20-year old spent down time with his family back in Montreal before travelling to Monaco in May to train.
