Phan is trying to improve on a fourth-place finish at last year’s world juniors.
ZAGREB, Croatia – Canadians Joseph Phan and Stephen Gogolev are sixth and 10th, respectively, after the men’s short program at the world junior figure championships.Toronto’s Gogolev, 14, is making his world junior debut.
"It was a bit shaky in the beginning but I thought it was good," said Gogolev. "I tried to approach it as a normal competition. I think I need to settle down a bit more for the free so I can be calmer." Camden Pulkinen of the U.S., leads, followed by fellow American Tomoki Hiwatashi and Italy’s Daniel Grassi.In pairs, Brooke McIntosh of Toronto and Brandon Toste of Mississauga, Ont., are 11th, while Gabrielle Levesque of Bridgewater, N.S., and Pier- Alexandre Hudon of St-Roc-des-Aulunaies Que., are 15th.Competition continues Thursday with the short dance and pairs free skate.
