Each province will send out its own alert at a designated time, with B.C.’s alert scheduled for 1:55 p.m.
A Canada-wide test of emergency alert systems will take place Wednesday on radio, television and cell phones. When the test takes place, the public will hear an alert tone and then hear or see the following message:
“If this had been an actual emergency or threat, you would now hear instructions that would assist you to protect you and your family. For further information go to http://www.emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca. This is ONLY a TEST, no action is required.” For the alert to appear on smartphones, the phone must be able to access the LTE or 4G network, be wireless public alerting compatible, be up to date and connected to a cellular network at the time the alert is issued.
