Organizers believe Canada\u0027s ongoing vaccination efforts mean that the Canada Sevens in September should be COVID\u002D19 safe.
This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below. That’s a big lesson about why the Hong Kong Sevens were cancelled on Thursday and why the Canada Sevens are still on.
Earlier this year, the 2021 Hong Kong Sevens had already been rescheduled to November from its usual April date. The 2020 event was cancelled after the COVID-19 pandemic began in earnest. This is in contrast to levels of vaccination in Vancouver and Edmonton, which are still set to host a pair of tournaments on the sevens series next month. As of Tuesday, 68.2 per cent of British Columbians over the age of 12 had been fully vaccinated while another 14.4 per cent over 12 have had one dose, with most expected to received their second dose soon.
Because of this progress in vaccinations, Canada Sevens officials remain confident they’ll be able to host their events in Vancouver and Edmonton .
