Canada's Poulin fondly recalls 2010 past, pledges promising future
Leading Team Canada up against the Americans at Rogers Arena hit Marie-Philip Poulin with a wave of nostalgia.
“Some pictures came up on my social media from 10 years ago and, holy, I was young. Time flies. It’s pretty amazing.” On some level, it’s worked wonders. Women’s hockey has never gotten more attention. American Kendall Coyne Schofield almost blew up the Internet with her performance in the fastest skater competition at the NHL All-Star Weekend last season, and the NHL invited several PWHPA members to this year’s event for a three-on-three showcase.“I think it’s going to happen. It needs patience from all of us,” said Poulin. “We created an association and hope for a league and we believe in what we have.
The PWHPA has set up exhibition games on showcase weekends — there’s one Feb. 22 in Oakville, Ont. — to help fill in the gaps, but it’s a change from the 28-game seasons they played in the CWHL. “It’s been a lot of hard work off the ice. People within the PWHPA, all the players, have been amazing with that. I think we’ve made the most of this opportunity, We’ve created some amazing momentum. The girls who represented us at the NHL All-Star Game did a fantastic job.
