Canada ’s economy grew as expected at an annualized rate of 1 per cent in the third quarter, according to data released on Friday, helped by household and government spending and partly offset by lower business investments and exports.
The statistics agency revised the second quarter annualized growth to 2.2 per cent from 2.1 per cent. Household spending grew by 0.9 per cent and was one of the main drivers of the growth along with continued government expenditures, Statscan said. Currency markets are pricing in almost 27 per cent chance of a 50 basis point rate cut on Dec 11. A 25 basis point rate reduction is all but certain.
