Canada rugby coach to help Barbarians squad
The Barbarians, an iconic rugby all-star team, have appointed Canada coach Kingsley Jones an assistant coach for their May 28 match against a World XV.
“Coaching the Barbarians is one of the highest honours in rugby,” Kingsley Jones said in a statement. “I was lucky enough to play for the Baa-baas in 2000 – which was an incredible experience – and also coach them alongside Philippe Saint-André in 2010.The Barbarians, an invitational side known for its free-flowing style of rugby, date back to 1890. Once invited, a player becomes a life member of the famous club.
Kingsley Jones won 10 caps for Wales and captained his country once in 1998, while also enjoying club spells with Ebbw Vale, Pontypridd, Gloucester, Worcester Warriors and Doncaster Knights. He served as assistant coach to Saint-André in a 29-23 win over Ireland at Thomond Park and a 35-26 loss to England at Twickenham, both in 2010.
