Canada Post workers could be on the picket line at midnight Friday as Ottawa refuses to intervene and two sides still far apart.

“It could mean that a lot of people are not going to choose to shop and have packages delivered to them,” Stannix said., 79 per cent of small businesses in the country will be impacted by a work disruption at a time when they make as much as 40 per cent of their annual sales.“This time of the year is critical. It is the most important time of the year for many small businesses,” Guenette said from Ottawa.
Canada Post wants weekend delivery, but the union is opposed. At this point, the Federal Government is not stepping in. “We’re offering six dollars for delivery. So normally a delivery like that would be about ten to twelve bucks, depending on where it was going,” said Hasham. “So it’s a flat rate of six dollars.”
