Win in Toronto gives Canada a 4-0 aggregate victory and berth in the competition’s Finals
A sparse crowd of 13,239 on a cold, damp November night in Toronto is not exactly the sort of warmup that conjures images of what the entire Canadian soccer community hopes will be an eternal World Cup summer 18 months from now, but it was the backdrop for Jesse Marsch’s team on Tuesday night.
Marsch made three changes to his starting lineup, bringing striker Cyle Larin, midfielder Mathieu Choinière and defender Kamal Miller back into the fold. And while Larin, who has scored a joint-record 30 goals for the men’s national team always provides a threat in front of goal, it was the man who sits alongside him atop the program’s goal-scoring pile who got Canada off the mark here.
The goal further underlined the importance of David to the men’s team’s renaissance since Marsch took over in May, with the 24-year-old now having been involved in eight of the first 10 goals scored since.
